November 2015

The weather and the demersal ban makes things difficult at this time of year.
However there are still people who want to go fishing and
there are fish to be caught, just have to change what we do and target different species.
A few very early mackerel and tuna are starting to get caught already.

A few catches from my November Charters

Fiona and husband Michael Malloch were game for a fish during the demersal ban. I took them and a couple of mates
to an area where we could catch mulloway, sand snapper and the likes that are not affected by the ban.
Fiona opened her account with a thumper sand snapper

and Michael had to release this big estuary cod.

A few baldchin groper had to go back

and Frank’s dhuie, a PB for him also went back

Toni had a ball catching XXX sized sand snapper
and a nice pink snapper which released well.

On another charter late this month, we went for a troll for mackerel and tuna.
There were reports of mackerel being caught and the water was clear and 21.8 degrees, all good signs.
However it did not happen so we went to s spot that usually produces cobia.
Colin Thirtle with his coral trout that had to go back due to the demersal ban still in force until 15th December.

Chris got a wobbegong among his many blue-lines emperor,

while Dan took a long time before he
came up tight with this snapper.
No beating about the bush! There were blowies and they caused havoc to our tackle.
We eventually landed a small cobia that was shared on the filleting table.

Bite of the Month
Michael Malloch was gobsmacked when this estuary cod hit the surface near the boat.
He had no idea of the size other than it was a “Big fish” when he was fighting it to the boat.
It was released successfully with an extra-large release weight.
Each month I award Bite of the Month to someone who catches the best fish
from one of my boats.
