Another busy month with
lots of hires. The weather has been good enabling anglers to get to
the further away spots and
get onto some better fish. Wish you guys would send the phots so
I can showcase them for you.
It is the start of the big
dhuie time now when they all come in to shallower water and school up
to spawn.
Cave
Fishing
A mate of mine, Frank Rystenberg has
found a cool mulloway spot at the bottom of the southern cliffs. It does not
always fire but when
he took me there one afternoon, I
dropped two very good fish in this cave. You can only fish it during a very low
swell and the cave goes in about 75m
before turning around a corner where you can’t get to, so it might go on for a
lot further!
There is a fair current flowing back
and forth and big under cuts under the ledge we sit on, but the fish seem
to stay in the channel and fight back
and forth. Frank landed a pending ANSA line class mulloway here this month, a
7.3kg fish on 4kg line.
5.3m day out
Andrew Fagg and mates were out in the 5.3m boat
and landed some nice fish. Mainly baldchin groper and stripy sea perch.
I completed my full
Coxswain Grade 1 licence this month and am now able to take paying passengers
out in the 7.8m boat on charter.
We have been
chartering since December last but my son Ben has been the skipper, with me
tagging along when I can.
I took the gang out
for a celebration fish on a nice day.
Frank lands a nice

and Ben grabs the leader on a snapper.
Micky got the best catch, a dhuie and red emperor.

This is the one I
will be using in the boat if I break off above my leader.
Drew Doan was up last weekend, hirer the
7.8m boat for two days and asked me to charter the first day.
No problems, the weather was good so we
went the distance and landed some very nice fish

and Bang Lee with his cobia.
I got a big estuary cod which was over a metre
so had to be returned.
Bang Lee was reeling up his bait quickly
when it got hammered half way up by this 15.5kg yellow-fin tuna!

Cheryl landed
good bream in the river
and a surprise golden trevally from the river for
junior angler James
while Robbie
shows his malabar cod from the river.
Bite of the Month
Drew’s big dhuie wins
bite of the month. Caught on a slow flutter jig that he changed to from a knife
jig
that he felt would be
more suitable to entice a dhuie. It went 9.25kgs, a big one for Kalbarri area!
Each month I award Bite of the
Month to someone who catches the best fish
from one of my boats.
