February 2015

The Kalbarri Sports Fishing Classic is on this weekend, so I am busy sorting my gear in mad preparation.
We are defending our win from last year in the 7.8m boat. My other 4 boats are also booked and
fishing the comp. So good luck to them all.
The first two days weather is not looking the best so it will be
difficult for the sane but won’t affect the mad bastards!
We are coming into the better weather months now, when the mackerel and tuna turn on and the
bottom fishing gets easier, which is reflected in the rush of bookings that I have had.
Anyone can do it

Armin Veitl lives in Germany and has been touring Australia for the last 3 months in a Land Cruiser wagon with his wife Astrid and sons Finn and Timo. They have their yacht and power boat licence and took the 5.3m boat out on a nice day early this month trolling for anything they could get.  This chunky yellow-fin tuna made their day, all having a go on the rod eventually getting it to the boat.
When it all comes together
A one day hire in the 5.3m boat over the Christmas/New Year holiday period resulted in a
big mackerel for Guy Booth. This mac looks quite thin, had it been in top condition it would have been a monster!
Kids day out

Arthur Hall took the 5.3m boat and the kids out for a day late last month and managed to get into a cray or two with the kids. He had his dinghy with him that he used to put a couple of pots in and wanted the bigger boat to get to spots further away and with the kids.

New Tour for Kalbarri Wilderness Canoeing!

Alex from Kalbarri Wilderness Canoeing has been playing around with a new concept of canoeing the
Murchison River using electric motors for propulsion. This sure beats paddling especially when the easterly is blowing
or when Sue and I went, a full on south westerly when we got close to Kalbarri.
To test it all out Alex invited us along for a trip from Murchison House Station to the boat pens in Kalbarri.

We left the Station around 8am and stopped in at his breakfast spot where we all had bacon and egg rolls, and tea or coffee before the second leg to Kalbarri.

The electric motors are quiet allowing you to get up close to the wildlife, roos, emus, goats, birds, etc and for those who want to take photos, no need to keep putting the paddle down to get a shot.
Ideal for the elderly, disabled or plain lazy!
How the tour ends up, either start in Kalbarri, or from the station and back again, I do not know, but it will  be an new and relaxing way to an already great outback adventure.

Kalbarri Offshore & Angling Club Local Comp.
15th February 2015
The local comp was blown out by a typical February blow but the river fished well.
The Murchison has been flowing from recent rains and is all chocolate milk brown.
It is clearing up now so anglers were a bit worried as to how the river would fish.
A nice estuary cod for Brett
and looks like the bigger bream got pushed down towards town

Jeva’s bream was over a kg
and frank had a beach mulloway
