Just had a mate, Paul Youngman, up from
Perth with his mate, David, from New Zealand.
Wanting a fish and not having much time
I took them for a recreational fish just out the river mouth to a lump I know.
It is a bit of a hit and miss spot but
after consulting the "Anglers Almanac" told them that the bite time
was
10.30 am and that we should leave the
boat ramp at 9.00am and will be back at 12.00 noon. Not a bite until
10.25am then 7 mulloway and an estuary
cod! At 10.50.am it was all over and not another bite after that.
It pays to take note of the Almanac! We
released all but 2 mulloway.
Here is the video I took of Dave landing
his mulloway.
First time in a boat
Kerry Savas has his
own boat but far too big to tow so hired one of my 6.5m boats and only went as
far as the Sand Patch.
The girls aboard, Kerry’s
fiancé Suki and her sister Alice visiting from Hong Kong, had never fished
before and likely first time in a boat, but that did not stop
them.
Landing a samson fish
and big coral trout between them until the dreaded sea sickness took hold!
Well done Suki and Alice!
Hi Laurie,
Thanks for
everything... It was again a huge pleasure to support you (Murchison Boat
Hire)!
I'm really
looking forward to my next trip up there. It seems I'm learning more and more
every time I go out.
Chris and Jacob’s
catch Thursday, their first day.
It was really
hard work starting out on Friday morning. With that crazy wind in the morning
it was really hard to anchor accurately and
we did not have much luck all morning. We managed to anchor okay over one spot & had a few
good bites but, then those horrible blowies moved in taking rig after rig!!!! We
pulled the anchor and moved to “Andre”
(old faithful) again. Anchoring was no drama and we were perfectly positioned
over some promising looking ground.
As soon as my
bait hit the bottom it was smashed. When I got to see some colour on my fish
Jacob's bait got swallowed!
Ended up being a
double header of Mulloway!! Weighing in at 4kg and 6kg.
Both Jacob and I
had some real hard takes from fish we simple could not get over/out of the
reef.
I have this idea
that it could have been some larger Mulloway?? Jacob did manage to pull another
3kg one out there shortly after.
Was so excited
to see the Red! Unfortunately no record breaker but at lease it was a keeper
red emperor. We continued to catch a few fish
including some
nice sized skippy and a number of smaller size cod, we also had a few sand
snapper give us a bit of a work out.
Regards, Chris.
John Dobson has tried
to get the 7.8m a couple of times and it has always been booked out, but this
trip was different.
Taking a charter the
first day to see how it was all done and two days self-drive hire afterwards
made all the difference.
On the charter they
all bagged out on category 1 fish but alas the bigger fish eluded us.
Much better sized
fish made an appearance over the next two days with John landing a very nice
dhuie
and Phil landing good baldchin
and dhuie.
Lisa landed an
unusual catch out on charter this month. A blue-banded parrot fish.
This is the female,
90% of these fish caught are females. The males are iridescent
blue all over and
very rarely caught.
23rd August 2015
Biggest bream for
the year so far was this 1.3kg fish among his 4 fish bag for James.
Kept alive and
released.
Still a few
mangrove jacks in the river
and Daniel’s landbased catch, mulloway and spangled
emperor.
Bite of the Month
Lisa wins Bite of the
Month for this pretty blue-barred parrot fish.
An uncommon catch and
landed while out on charter, it made her day.
Each month I award Bite of the
Month to someone who catches the best fish
from one of my boats.
